[RESOLVED] Acronis Universal Restore failing to restore to dissimilar hardware

Thread needs solution

I am having a frustrating problem trying to restore a backup (created with Acronis Backup and Recovery 11.5) of a PC to another PC, PC's are of dissimilar hardware. So to do this I am trying to use the Universal Restore option to add the correct drivers so the PC boots.

I have extracted the drivers (using 7-zip) to a folder on an external hard drive. The external hard drive also holds the restore image.

The folder contains the chipset and USB drivers for the motherboard of the PC I am using to restore the image too.

I point the Universal restore at the extracted drivers folder.

When the restore gets to about 65% it prompts for a device driver for windows 7, which it lists as:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C26&SUBSYS_20038086&REV_OS

I re-point it to all the extracted drivers folder's on the external hard drive, it still cannot find the relevant files.

When I look at the logs of the restore task I can see that the prompt for the driver file comes up just after it looks for:
usb.inf
universalHCD.DEV.NT

I choose to ignore the file completely and the restore finishes.

When I boot to windows I get a BSOD with a stop code of 0x0000007b, just at the Windows 7 Splash loading screen.

I have changed the SATA controller mode from AHCI to IDE and RAID modes. Still I get the BSOD.

I am unable to access Windows via safe mode, the BSOD occurs.

The motherboard that is in the PC is an Intel DH67CL.

To see if it was the image/backup which was causing the BSOD I restored the image to an older PC with an Intel dg43NB motherboard. I used the UR option and pointed it to the extracted drivers fo this motherboard.

The restore finished successfully and did not flag up missing driver files.

I was then able to boot to windows 7 32 bit OS.

Has anyone else come across a similar problem as this before?

OK that driver is your USB driver for your Intel chipset, are you sure you've got the correct version for your OS? It might be worth downloading the latest chipset package from Intel. I see that that driver is mentioned for the H and P67, I don't see it listed for the DH67.

You could try disabling the Enhanced USB Controller in your BIOS and see if you can at least restore your machine and then either use Windows Update to locate the correct driver or manually install it and then switch the controller back on again.

Thanks for your reply.

I have double checked the chipset driver, which I downloaded, and can confirm it is the correct driver for Windows 7 32 bit.
The driver file name is:

INF_allOS_9.3.0.1026_PV.exe

The chipset driver was downloaded from this page on the Intel support page:

I am intrigued to know where you saw that the driver was not list for the DH67...

I have checked the BIOS and cannot find a setting for the enhanced USB controller, but I did disable the USB 3.0 controller within the BIOs but still got the BSOD at the windows 7 splash screen.

I have now raised a case with Acronis support for this problem, so this thread can be closed. Am I able to close the thread myself?

No, only Acronis can lock the thread, but if you get the problem solved, it would be interesting to know what Acronis did or suggested just in case others have your problem.

Hello,

encountering the same problem, I'd like to ask you if a solution was found for this issue. Thank you very much for answer !
