[RESOLVED] Problem with Exchange Server
We have an customer with this scenario:
Esxi 4.1 host with several virtual guests. Mostly win2k machines.
Up to now these machines have been saved as whole virt machines by RCLI scripts ( Create Snapshot - Save virt machine - Consolidate Snapshot ). That worked so far.
Now we have switched to acronis 11.5 virtual edition so that the customer can restore separate files from such an saved machine.
One of the machines is an win2k server with exchange 2000 server. The exchange is saved by an symantec backup product and an agent that is installed on this server. But additional the customer wants to save that machine completely as virt machine ( regardless of exchange condition -> symantec ).
This worked so far with the script solution. But now with the "prof and commercial" product acronis it doesnt work anymore. Short after the start of the backup the exchange server looses its connection to its local data/information store. Because of that all outlook client loose connection to exchange too. You can reconnect that after backup is done again by hand, but that isn't of course the solution that the customer wanted.
Has anyone an idea what can be done to solve that ? So that we can save the exchange server machine as complete virt machine ?
Solution:
You have to stop the MS Exchange 2000 Services before backing up them, using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11.5.
In order to perform pre-/post-commands, you have to use a local installed Acronis agent into this virtual guest. The guest MS Windows Server 2000 has to be on latest patch level, at least Service Pack 4 with Update Rollup 1 for SP4.
How to perform pre-/post-commands, you will find in our Online Help:
