[RESOLVED] VSS Error Event ID 22 Backup Error

Thread needs solution

If you get this Error after a update Installation just delete the following Reg Key and the Exchange Backup works:

Open Regedit
Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Providers\]
Make a backup of that key.
Delete the key {f782463b-33bb-4043-ad8d-60b728d26a6c}
Open the Windows Services management console (services.msc)
Restart the ‘Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider’ service
Try backup

(!) You do every change on MS Windows registry on your own risk.

Only if you get the information from official Acronis support, these steps are verified and do not conflict with Microsoft Windows Registry settings.

In your case it might be enough to edit the existing task to the default of ‘Software – System Provider’ in volume shadow copy options and to ensure, that the Acronis VSS Provider Service is set to ‘manual’ and not ‘deactivated’.

Been having this problem on all the boxes we upgraded from 10 to 11.5, could see it was a VSS issue, but hadn't got any further. Was about to try reboots and re registoring the VSS dlls....

This seems to have solved it so far, will report back after the backup finishes !

This didn't seem to solve the issue, for me. I get two sets of warnings.
First one.
Failed to create a snapshot of volume 'C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume1)'.

i have set the plan to use acronis VSS and have removed the reg key (as per the link) reboot of units. This is happpening to three mail servers. Two of which got a upgrade to 11.5 from 10 and the other had a unistall, cleanup tool, reboot, then install of 11.5

Any ideas ?

Just cause i know it's annoying when u find someone having the say issue and the posts stop.

I HAVE FIXED IT.

I belive this was because the 3 exchange boxes were also DCs. I did the regedit, changed the plan to use "system provider VSS" (so windows Volume shadow copy) AND changed the plan to use the domain admin account to excute (tho you should really create a seprate account with the same rights and run it under there)

I hope this helps any one in the furture (or myself when i forget what the fix was)
