Universal Restore - Can't find device driver
Hi,
I'm trying to restore an image of a Windows Server 2003 x64 box to another box and I'm encountering some issues while applying universal restore. The box successfully images the partitions across, however fails to booth with a 0x7B, inaccessible boot device, error message. This is expected as the controller in the box is different than what was in the original. I have used acronis and universal restore in the past, however this time seems really problematic.
The image is being restored on a Dell PowerEdge 2900 server with an LSI Logic LSISAS1068 card. I created the bootable media using the Windows AIK. Universal restore is included in the media. I tried booting off the media then going to "tools", then "apply universal restore", however I am unable to succeed with this. I get the following:
One of more activities needs your interaction
Cannot find device driver 'PCI\VEN_1000&DEV_0058&SUBSYS_1F101027&REV_08' for Windows Server 2003 Standard x64 Edition. Place the driver on removable media or in folder 'G:\' and click retry. Otherwise, click Ignore and repeat the Acronis Universal Restore process at a later time, to add the missing driver.
The driver for the device cannot be found in the operating system or the additionally specified drivers.
I have placed the driver on the root of the removable USB drive that I used to boot the machine from. The drive letter assigned during the process is G. I have tried copying the files directly to the C drive on the restored partition and I faced the same issue. I also tried recreating the boot media with the driver already installed during the recovery media creator process using the add driver function. I have tried multiple versions of the driver from Dell's site and intel's site with the same issue.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Richie,
Have you tried to boot the machine despite the messages in the log? Is the backup restored to the same machine or to the dissimilar hardware?

Hi. Good day.
I am trying to restore a backup image of a workstation (a .tib file) in Vmware installed on my PC (the hardware is dissimilar), I used Acronis back up with acronis universal restore, during the recovery operation i got this messages.
Device driver 'PCI \VEN 15AD&DEV 07708SUBSYS 077015AD&REV_00 for Microsoft XP Professional' cannot be found. Place the drivers on a removable media and click retry.
As per the attachment, first I clicked retry and the same error message will keep shown up. Then I clicked ignore all, it said Recover Operation Succeeded. So I try boot the machine it can boot . I am wondering why have such error message and not sure how will it affect the machine which I managed to boot it successfully. I am using VMware Workstation 12 (Version: 12.5.9 build-7535481).
Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hello Tony,
welcome to Acronis forums!
This device seems to be the USB Controller which did not influence the boot-up process. This driver can be found on VMware Tools.
I recommend that you check the following KB article on how to perform this: https://kb.acronis.com/content/40454

Hi Maria,
From the KB article you shared to me, is that means that I have to install the VMWare tools first? Please see attached. By the way how could I know whether I have the VMware Tools ISO? As I cant' find it in the common path for the ISO file which is C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation\windows.iso.
Thank you.

The purpose of Universal restore is to get an image restored to dissimilar hardware to boot. You have accomplished that. Now you need to install VMware Tools to get more devices working. You should be looking at the VMware forum for help.
