Unmanaged, Centralized Vault Management

Thread needs solution

I have created an Unmanaged, Centralized Vault on a local hard disk using a network share.

Can I move (cut and paste) the tib files and move them to offline storage (DVD, ext USB drive, etc)? And what about the xml files and the \Catalog folder?

Finally, can I remove a vault on External USB storage and later re-attach and re-catalog?

Thanks,
Vint

Hello Vint
please tell more about your scenario. What backup scheme are you using? Do you want to move the files just once, from time to time, or on a schedule? Supposedly, you will keep some files in the original location so as to do incremental backups?

There are cases when one can just move, but using the regular tools is safer. Depending on your needs, consider export, retention rules, or simplified file naming (if applicable to your case).

I am performing monthly full backups only as these are fairly static servers. I would like to perform the backups to local internal disks for speed and then copy the backups to externally connected USB drives at my convenience.

Can I cut and paste them to another vault and perform a catalog operation? I am trying to keep this as simple and self sufficient as possible.

Thanks,
Vint

For moving backups between vaults, ABR has the Export operation. If you need just "cut and paste", you can try, but first try "copy and paste". Then recreate the archive meta info (open the Recovery or Validation sheet, navigate to the location and click Refresh if you do not see the copied backup). Validating the copied backup is also a good point. Delete the original backup once you are sure everything is ok,
