Bootable Media Builder - PE File locations

Thread needs solution

I am trying to create a 64Bit PE based Bootable CD using the Bootable Media Builder.

I have installed the Windows Preinstallation Environment kit as part of the WIAK on my Windows 10 PC.

I cannot get the builder to work. I tried Create WinPE automatically. This failed.

I tried Specifying the folder.

The file locations is

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Assessment and Deployment Kit\Windows Preinstallation Environment

The Builder will not allow me to enter the location of these files. I have tried the above path, including adding:

AMD64

AMD64\en-us

None of these work.

There is no documentation that I can find that explains the correct path to use in the builder.

Where are these files supposed to be located? And what is the correct path to brows for?

Thanks,

Ross

Hi Ross,

which WIAK version do you have installed?

Just have built a AcronisPE-64 Image to boot from USB-Key. My WAIK version is 10.1.10586.0 installed to default location (C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits).

I followed this guide in the help docs:

Prepare PE: http://dl.managed-protection.com/u/backup/help/12/user/en-US/index.html#23980.html

Create ISO: http://dl.managed-protection.com/u/backup/help/12/user/en-US/index.html#36955.html

Adding license and selected Windows PE (64-bit) in Auto-mode, at the end let the builder create an ISO. Used Rufus to install it to the USB-Key for having a bootable WinPE with Acronis on USB (filesystem should be NTFS).

I have the newer ADK that matches the Windows 10 Anniversarry update - 10.1.14393.0.  I cannot create WinPE in Acronis Backup 12 or Snap Deploy 5 with this ADK, but can create it with Acronis 2017.  Previous versions of the ADK worked fine, but does not seem to be compatible with the latest.  Not really sure why - the snapman and fltmgr drivers are the same for all versions of Windows 7 and later.  I'm guessing that the PE media builder is looking for specific versions of the ADK, but could probably be resolved if it was not specific to a particular version number, but only the major version (like 10.X).

I have version 10.1.10586.0.

I will try and update the WAIK to the latest version and see what happens.

I did follow the guides as well, but no luck at all with this version of Backup 12.0.3596

No luck with the newer WAIK. The wizard will not allow me to proceed at all. I can't even browse for the PE files.

It works for me in auto mode with ADK 10.1.10586.0.

Did you have any other Acronis product installed before you installed AB12? Maybe a full uninstall using an Acronis Cleanup Utility followed by a reinstall will help.

BTW. I tried to create a WinPE by specifing the PE files and I had no luck no matter what folder I pointed to. I even tried mounting the winpe.wim image and pointing to the mounted image. No luck. I have no idea what Acronis is looking for.

FYI: There is a known issue with the ADK version which comes with Win10 Anniversary update (b. 1607) - Acronis Backup 12 WinPE builder doesn't recognize this ADK version properly. Internal issue ID for reference: ABR-110380. It is planned to be fixed in the next updates. Until then an older ADK version should be used.
