To install Management Server on Virtual Server or Physical PC

Thread needs solution

i used the Acronis Back 12 to backup ESXi virtual server (total 3 server).

Presently i installed the Management Server software on one of the physical PC running Windows 7.

Can i install the Management Server Server on one of the ESXi virtual server that Acronbis is backing up?

If yes, what is the disadvantage of installing the Management Server software on the virtual server.

Thank you.

Darren

Hi Darren,

Running Acronis Management Server inside a virtual machine makes perfect sense especially in relatively small environments where not too many machines need to be protected. There are no practical disadvantages except potentially reduced performance in comparison with physical machine, though you'll notice difference only under huge load which is unlikely to be your case. Note that you can also install Agent for VMware (Windows) onto the same virtual machine and it will then act as virtual appliance, e.g. it will be able to back up other VMs on this ESXi host in optimal way (in hot-add mode by attaching VMs disks to itself in order to read in LAN-free mode).

Thank you.
