Licensing Issues

Thread needs solution

Hello,

we have two questions:

1. we see that the assinged license to a host is lost after a restart of this host. Is this a known bug ?
2. you cannot assgin a license to a host that is in maintenance mode. Is this a known bug ?

Sincerley Yours

Sven

Hi Sven,

The licenses assignment to virtualization hosts is performed automatically upon first backup of a VM from it. If it's a vSphere ESXi host which is a part of vSphere cluster then a license is assigned to all hosts in this cluster. The 1st issue you mention is not a known one and we've not seen such behavior. Can you please clarify whether VM backups are failing as the result of the host reboot? Also what you see in the Licensing section (in licenses assignment) after trying to backup a VM after the host reboot? Some screen shots illustrating the behavior would be most helpful.

Concerning the 2nd question, it's a normal behavior, since VM backups from host in maintenance mode is not possible. Note that you don't really need to manually assign a license to the host - it should be picked up automatically.

Thank you.
