"No data to back up was found. The Operation Has Been Terminated"

Thread needs solution

No idea why this is happening when I try to create a backup of a VM on VMware (ESXI 5.0.0).

At first I thought it was because of VMware tools not running but I have confirmed it is "Running (Current)".

Any thoughts?

Hi,

The error quoted is too common to analyze it properly. In general it means that the opened disks are detected as empty for whatever reasons. Usually it's related to specifics of the backed up VM, for example if it has RDM devices in physical mode which cannot be snapshotted and therefore backed up or there are disks with no partition structure (non-formatted). It makes sense to localize the issue by trying to back up some other VM and contacting our support team with full log from the originally failed operation.

Thank you.
