Virtual Host Backup Space needed

Thread needs solution

Hello,

i am using Acronis 12 Virtual Host on our Server, a Windows 2016 Host system with 2 Hyper-V VM's (both Server 2016).
If I'm doing an Full Backup of the Host-Machine the VHDX-Files will be included.
If I doing an Backup of the 2 VM's, the content will be stored in a separate backup-file.
In summary the space need for Backup is almost twice.
Is there a way to reduce space needed for Backup (exclude VHDX-File during Host Backup)?

Thanks

Jürgen

Hi Jürgen,

The most straightforward way to reduce the backup size is to use the "File filters" backup option and exclude *.vhdx files when capturing Hyper-V host backup. Then you can back up the hosted VMs via separate backup plan to achieve full protection. An alternative is not to exclude anything and capture only Hyper-V host backups, however in this case the individual VM recovery process will be more complicated (you'll need to recover the .vhdx + configuration files and then register them as VM).

Thank you.
