Acronis 12.5 slow browsing Backups with Storage Node

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I have an Issue when trying to browse Backups because it`s very slow.

We have Acronis 12.5 and a NAS Storage Unit as Backup Device.

The Backup Server is also configured as Storage Node in Acronis so we can use Deduplication and the Catalog on the Backup Device.

Daily Backups working fine but when i try to restore it`s very slow when browsing through Backup Location - means up to 15 minutes or more (hangs on : loading data ).

however, when i try to browse through Backup Catalog it`s working fats but we found that the Catalog is incomplete.

It`s show just a Part of the Backup Data.

So my Questions: how we can speed up browsing on Backup Location and is there a Way to re-index all currently stored Backup Data so the Catalog becomes up to date.

many Thanks !

Mario

Hi Mario!

If I understand correctly you have the following setup:

  • a NAS storage unit as the actual storage location for backups (Vault location)
  • A device with Management server, Storage node, Catalog service all installed.

You may be experiencing an IO bottleneck. Have a look at this guide for performance tips, in case you haven't already: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/download/docs/ab12.5/bp/ .

If you select your vault and click refresh it should reindex/recatalog your backups

Hello Mario,

welcome to Acronis forums!

So my Questions: how we can speed up browsing on Backup Location

Please make sure that when you select Acronis Agent to browse this Backup Location from, it is installed on the same machine with Acronis Storage Node component (thus, you browse your backup location from the same machine).

Way to re-index all currently stored Backup Data so the Catalog becomes up to date.

When Cataloging is enabled for a managed location, the content of each backup directed to the location is added to the data catalog as soon as the backup is created. Please note that Cataloging is supported only for disk- and file-level backups of physical machines, and backups of virtual machines.

The following data cannot be displayed in the catalog:

  • Data from the encrypted backups
  • Data backed up to tape devices
  • Data backed up to the cloud storage
  • Data backed up by product versions earlier than Acronis Backup 12.5

Please also consider the Cataloging best practice

Hello,

First thanks for the feedback.

I am browsing/searching for backups directly on my Backup Server which is also acting as the Storage Node.

The Server should not have any  IO bottleneck because it`s running with 8 CPUs, 32GB Memory and a 10GB Uplink.

However, Server still hangs on loading Data for up to 15 minutes when browsing over Backup Locations.

When using the Catalog it`s going much faster but on the Catalog i miss some backed up Folders.

Have reviewed the Job Logs i does not found any Entry that this Folders could not be backed up.

That`s why i`ve asked how to update the Catalog, because when i click on the Vault Refresh Button it takes about 10 to 15 seconds and thats it. But we have over 30TB of Backup Data stored on our NAS Device so i dont think that this will be reindexed in just 15 seconds.

Regards,

Mario

Hello,

Here an example of a VM and it`s visible Backup Versions.

This Issue i have for multiple backed up VMs, so it seems to be that the Catalog is not up to date.

Regards,

Mario

Hello Mario.

thanks for providing additional details and screenshots.

There is no option to refresh a catalog.

I should also emphasize that we recommend that you install a catalog service and a storage node on separate machines. Otherwise, these components will compete for CPU and RAM resources.

If these components are installed on separate machines and a problem with browsing backups on Acronis Storage Node still persists, plus cataloging does not work as expected, I advise that you open a case with Acronis Support Team so that engineers could investigate these issues.

You will need to collect Acronis System Information from both machines (the one where cataloging service is installed and where Acronis Storage Node is) and share this data with Acronis support engineers.
