Acronis Storage Node Query

Thread needs solution

Previously we were using various versions of Acronis 11/ 11.5 & 11.7 as standalone systems for our servers but had the ability to have the storage node option on these versions.

These products fell out of support / maintenance and we ended up re purchasing new licenses to cover our Server / Workstation on the latest version 12.5 Standard.

It appears that the Storage Node option that we had in previous versions now only comes with the Advanced Version preventing us from using locally based storage nodes like before.

So the question is, If we require to backup our data to a local storage node again, then do we have to upgrade ALL of our licenses again to the advanced version or can we purchase a couple of advanced licenses to install the our local storage nodes again, and would the standard licenses see this storage node to backup data too?

In the interim we have managed to get round this using network shares, but that leaves us having to manage multiple backup locations, rather than a few managed locations.

Hi Duncan,

Backup to Acronis Storage Node managed locations was possible only with Advanced licenses in version 11.7 too - see table from documentation - centralized management and deduplication are restricted with "Standard" license. In other words this approach was not changed with version 12.5. I've also checked your account records and found that you had 11.7 (and older) "Advanced" Workstation licenses, while Server licenses were all "Standard" - so probably that's why backup to Acronis Storage Node worked for you for some machines.

To answer your question: yes you'll need to have Advanced license per each agent which will be performing backup to location managed by Acronis Storage Node. The agents which don't have Advanced license assigned to them will fail the backup.

However in your scenario (if you don't use deduplication), having a single network share would also do the job - with 12.5 you get centralized management included (while in 11.7 it was only with Advanced license), so you can add a single centralized location (on network share) from "Backups->Locations" tab and use it as backup repository for all the machines registered on the management server - you won't need Acronis Storage Node for this case.

Thank you.
