Anyone using Single Internal tape drive successfully?

Thread needs solution

We are new to Acronis using a trial version of 12.5, update 2. We have an internal, single tape drive that Acronis is compatible with. We are having issues completing a short (1 file) backup test. We have an existing case with support but they cannot figure it out yet. Support did install the Storage node option. We are using brand new tapes for our tests.

We are able to Inventory the drive & it shows the Tape 001 in the Acronis Pool. We can also eject the tape but not complete a backup.

For the Backup options, if we leave the default for "Backup Format" ( I think it defaults to Version12) we get an error that tape is write-protected.

If we change that option to Version 11 then when the backup runs, we hear the drive being accessed, it prompts us to Insert media even though the tape is in the drive. If we click OK, it starts resuming but seems to go no further. For instance we waited 30 minutes on "resuming" for a 1 GB file and it never timed out, etc. No error and the tape drive made no further noises.

First of all, we are not sure we need the Storage Node option, but a tech that remoted in said we did and he installed it. Can anyone confirm if we need this when the tape drive is in the server we are trying to backup? Note --we will be backing up another server on the network that to this same tape drive so maybe that is why we need the Storage node?

Thanks and any additional idea on a successful tape backup configuration is appreciated.

Hello ASLSOS,

Your assumption is correct. The Storage Node component was required to backup that different computer from the network.

If you have not run our tape diagnostic tools yet, here is the link: https://kb.acronis.com/node/32667. Their output will help identifying the failing part and troubleshoot the issue.

Thank you

Thank you for the reply and  understood now, however we still cannot even backup the server that has the tape drive internally installed and the drive passes diag and is on compatibilty list. Used daily with other software. We can eject tape, inventory, etc but everytime we try to backup just 1 file for a test it thinks there is no tape in drive. We tried via storage node location or just the Acronis location.

ASLSOS,

We'd be happy to continue working on this issue for you. If you were trialing and the trial period has expired, please contact us at http://www.acronis.com/support/contact-us.html

Hard to tell what could have gone wrong with backup to tapes without looking into more details and closer issue troubleshooting.

Thank you for your input.
