Backup 12.5 Advanced: big step back

Hello.

I'm on Acronis 12.5 Advanced Workstation from some days and upgrading from 11.7 was a terrible mistake.

There are a lot of annoying things causing only issues:

  1. After upgrade all previous repositories were not usable for new backups and there is no way to save credentials for them. I had to create new Locations
  2. Agent upgrades install the Backup Monitor i don't want and there is no option to disable it
  3. After agent upgrades, they try to install a Tape location that doas not exist
  4. There is not a simple way to check the status of each plan and last backup results
  5. The status bar is ridiculous and always green wahtever happens
  6. Plan names cannot finish with a variable anymore and i had to rename manually all my plans
  7. No option to clone a plan anymore, only workaroud is import/export
  8. Remote agent install with MSI and MST is not working, i will invastigate later on this.
  9. The web interface is .... cannot comment it
  10. Ticket opened on 01 June, no answer yet.

I'm really sad i have decided to upgrade my working 11.7

Please see my comments below:

  1. After upgrade all previous repositories were not usable for new backups and there is no way to save credentials for them. I had to create new Locations.

It's unclear what was the repositories type in your case. The behavior you describe looks like a bug, though we've not seen such behavior - the only known issues are related to locations managed by Acronis Storage Node (ASN) - the plans which were saving backups to these locations have to be edited and credentials for ASN must be provided.

  1. Agent upgrades install the Backup Monitor i don't want and there is no option to disable it

You can uninstall the Backup Monitor component by running Acronis Backup 12.5 setup program and unchecking the corresponding option. Please see the screen shots attached below.

  1. After agent upgrades, they try to install a Tape location that doas not exist

There is a default tape location created after installation of Agent to machine with tape drive attached. However in your situation this doesn't seem the case, so additional clarifications are required. Can you please attach a screen shot illustrating the issue + clarify whether there were any tape drives attached to machines running Acronis Backup agents?

The last backup results can be checked from Devices list - for each machine you can check when it was backed up last time and what was the result. 

  1. The status bar is ridiculous and always green wahtever happens

The status bar which you refer to is showing the number of machines where the plan is applied to and the status of the last backup for these machines (number of successes/warnings/failures). It is handy when you have plans which are applied to multiple machines and you want to check overall status. If you want to check status for each particular machine then it's more convenient to check their backup status from Devices list.

The plan names are generated automatically with unique names if duplicates exist. Some additional clarifications are required. Can you please attach screen shots illustrating the issue?

7. No option to clone a plan anymore, only workaroud is import/export

We implemented "clone plan" functionality and it will be available in the next update.

Hi.

Here are some clarifications.

1) Previous storage location were named to something like bsp://[server name]/[location name]. Backup doas not start on this location type. I had to create new.

2) Agents upgardes are done remotely and generally i install the agent remotly. In this case you cannot control if the Monitor is installed (there was this option on 11.7). Local installation on each machine is really annoying and time spending.

3) In this screenshot, 3 just upgraded agents install a Tape location. On workstations it will not be so common. What's more, you can see there is a Bolzano NAS. This is a remote location on a NAS share i have already removed. When i upgrade an agent there's an activity called "Refreshing Recovery Point" that add it again and fails bacuse of wrong credentials. But, again, this location was removed.

6) All my plans where named [machine name]. This is not allowed anymore, you have to add something at the and and cannot be a variable. I had to rename all plans.

11) No option anymore to select network speed by %, only fixed bitrate (there was in 11.7)

12) No option anymore to revert back to default setting for each plan (there was in 11.7). This could be a nightmare.

What should be nice to have:

1) Option to start a backup, or not, depending on the IP subnet the computer is connected. Useful for users tha travel to different location so the backup will not start when on mobile VPN. Now i have to use a script.

2) Ability to change different settings for multiple backup plans.
