Backup 12.5 on Centos - wish to create a VM from the Backup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have Backup 12.5 running on a Centos server. I wish to make a physical to virtual move of this VM using the same machine. So I need to use Acronis to create a backup suitable to restore to a VM. The machine that is running Centos native at present is being rebuilt as a Windows Hyper-V server. The existing Centos will then run as a VM on this machine. The process I imagine is:

  • create a backup using Backup 12.5 suitable for a VM restore
  • wipe the disks and rebuild the existing server as Windows 2016 with hyper-V
  • create a VM on this server
  • restore the backup from step 1

Is this possible?

Thanks

Hello Dave,

Should be doable! I'd boot the existing server with an Acronis bootable media, take an image of it and then vice versa, create a fresh VM on a new host, boot it again with the BM and restore the image onto the VM. Restore is this case will be performed in the way as to a physical machine.
