Backup advanced on Linux. Do I need a storage node to use a tape backup?

Thread needs solution

I can't find any information about this.  We have a tape library attached to a linux server running BU Advanced 12.5.  We sometimes get errors and the tech support rep is telling us that we need to install a storage node on a windows machine to be able to make backups to tape from a linux server.

Is that really true?  Why?

We can run backups of small amounts of data find, but on larger amounts it fails.

Only agent installed on same Linux server as tape device will be able to write to it, if you want more agents to write to tape device you need storage node with tape attached to it.

Storage node can only be installed on Windows ( and you need extra licence as SN always installs agent in ABA 12.5)
