Backup problems on XP SP2

Thread needs solution

I'm trying to backup a machine with Windows XP SP2, but I'm having some problems:

  • For some reason the dedicated xp sp2 acronis installer doesn't start, nothing happens
  • I decided to do a backup with bootable media instead, but it's stuck at boot windows PE (stuck at loading winPE for 1+ hour)
  • This machine previously had 11.5 installed, which I uninstalled prior to trying the above

So my questions are:

  1. Any idea or ways to troubleshoot why the installer doesn't start?
  2. What are the system requirements for running the bootable media?
  3. Are the requirements the same for winPE and linux based media?
  4. Is it possible the booting issue is the result of some missing drivers?

Hello Peter,

thanks for posting on Acronis forums!

First of all, please make sure that read the following chapter on Agent for Windows XP SP 2 installation.

  • For some reason the dedicated xp sp2 acronis installer doesn't start, nothing happens

Please check whether you downloaded special Agent for Windows XP SP2 component. Please run it as administrator.

  • I decided to do a backup with bootable media instead, but it's stuck at boot windows PE (stuck at loading winPE for 1+ hour)

Please create Acronis WinPE- based bootable media as instructed in the following KB article: https://kb.acronis.com/content/24254

It should be created on the same PC that you are going to boot with it later.

  1. Any idea or ways to troubleshoot why the installer doesn't start?

Please consult the following troubleshooting installation issues guide

2. What are the system requirements for running the bootable media?

Acronis Bootable Media (Linux-based) requires at least 1 GB of memory.

2. Are the requirements the same for winPE and linux based media?

PE images based on WinPE 4 and later require approximately 1 GB of RAM to work.

However, according to your description, booting from WinPE disk stuck on booting Windows environment step.

4. Is it possible the booting issue is the result of some missing drivers?

Looks like a result of incorrect WinPE-based bootable media creation
