Backup to Tape Suddenly Slow
I currently run two backup plans each night. The first is a full backup of a Hyper-V Windows 2012 R2 server. The compression level is set to high. Although I cannot verify that the dates match, about the time I upgraded from Update 1 to Update 2, the backup has been unacceptably slow. This backup used to take 32 minutes from start to a verified finish as which the second backup plan would be able to start. That plan is now take upwards of 18 hours.
The second backup plan backs up two additional Hyper-V servers. This plan is set to start approximately 2 hours after the start of the first job. Before the upgrade, this plan would start on time and complete in under 4.5 hours. Now, if I let that job complete, will take upwards of 27 hours.
Obviously, something has changed. However, I have made no adjustments to the individual jobs, nor the server itself. The tape drive is the same, and the drivers and firmware have not been modified. I have not run Windows Updates on either the host server, nor the VM servers.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what to try? How difficult is it to revert back to version 12.5, update 1?
Thanks,
