Boot Recovery Medium (Linux) - delete the old partition on the hard disk

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I regularly test the backups created by Backup 12.5.
In a virtual machine, I perform a recovery.

I would like to delete the old partitions of the target volume when asking for the recovery target. But I can not find a way.
So far, I create in the VM a new, empty disk to specify this as the target. But I find something awkward.

Can someone give me a hint on how you do that?

Regards

Hi Andy,

Can you please clarify your question with some screen shots illustrating what you're trying to achieve? There is difference in recovery options (what you can do with partitions from the backup and with target partitions) when you restore backup as VM (Agent for VMware/Hyper-V) and when you restore it via bootable media or while executing restore with reboot. Getting better understanding of scenario would let me advise properly.

Thank you.

Hello

The backup is performed on a physical machine. The test recovery in a vmware Workstation Pro VM.

At this point it would be good that you can delete the existing partitions. Apparently the recovery does not work because other partitions exist.

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the details. There are 2 methods to achieve the goal:

1) Before starting recovery wizard go to Navigation->Disk Management from where you can delete existing partitions or create new ones.

2) Instead of recovering volumes (which would require volumes mapping) you should choose to restore "Disks" instead in "What to recover" dialogue , which would simply overwrite the entire disk regardless of volumes present on it - see screen shot:

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

You have helped me a lot. Many Thanks !!
