Cannot connect to NAS shares Crateting Backup

Thread needs solution

Hi All,

While creating a new backup process, specifying the location of where to backup to I cannot browse the folders after adding the credentials for the NAS. I can however choose the same NAS when creating a plan for a second VM on the host with no issues. That backup process works as expected. (VMWARE)

I can also add the location from the backups tab but when I configure the backup to use that location to backup too it fails with unable to mount volume.

I am a little perplexed as to why it works for one VM but not the others.

I have noticed the appliance console shows that the management server is unregistered. Not sure why?

Chris

Hi Chris,

When you create a backup plan for some VM, then the backup location is tried to be browsed by the Agent for VMware (appliance or Windows agent) which is bind to this VM. You can check the Agent<->VM binding from Devices->select the VM->check the Details tab. What happens in your case most likely is that while 1 VM is managed by 1st agent (appliance) which can access the NAS properly, the 2nd VM is managed by another appliance which lacks network connection to the NAS, so you should check the network settings (which virtual network they are connected to, what are the IP settings in their console) for both appliances to reveal the difference and adjust where necessary. The connection to AMS issue may be related to the same root cause (improper network settings).

Thank you.

Hi Vasily ,

This issue did turn out to be a network issue but not the one you thought of. Turns out that Synolgy has added support for Adaptive load balancing. i had not noticed that this was the selected choice. When I recreated it with IEEE 803.2ad it worked.

I do only have one Appliance and the VM that was working had the windows agent installed as it is the management system where i create all the backups from.
