Cannot recover Exchange 2016 Mailbox data

Having an issue with recovering Exchange 2016 mailbox data - this always fails with the following error:

Windows error: (0x8000500C) The following error has occurred in the Active Directory Service Interfaces API: ''. HRESULT: -2147463156; Extended error code: 0; Provider: 'LDAP Provider'.

The backup of the Exchange data runs fine - I have run this in a variety of different ways (Application Aware, Mailboxes, Database) however each time I restore this error occurs.

The Exchange sevrer being backed up (and restored to) is NOT a domain controller (cannot be - not supported with Exchange 2016) but DOES have the AD LDAP Service installed and an LDAP query to this server does return a result.

Is there a simple way to recover these mailboxes?

Please, create support ticket for this problem. Support guys will ask you to collect system information from the machine where Exchange server is installed.
