Class not registered

Thread needs solution

I have a customer running Windows 2012 Standard, and we have been getting this error for the past 5 days, and the backup has been failing. I try manually to do the back up, and it gets to 18% and fails with the same error. Any help would be great. Thank you

Hi,

The error occurs on attempt to create VSS snapshot (snapshot creation process is entirely handled by Microsoft VSS service) of the volume where the backed up VM resides (the D:\ volume). The error 2147746132 ("Class not registered") is thrown by Microsoft VSS and should be troubleshoot by looking through Windows Event logs. Also for troubleshooting of VSS issues you can try using Acronis VSS Doctor utility which can scan through Windows logs and provide the report to narrow down the root cause.

One potential root cause might be presence of some 3rd party VSS provider which is used by default while it doesn't support snapshotting the D:\ volume. You can try choosing default Microsoft VSS provider under Backup Options->Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) in the backup plan.
