Convert Always Incremental (Single file backup) to Full and do custom schedule

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I am using Acronis Backup 12.5 to backup the virtual machine which are running on vmware vsphere Infrastructure.

Two vSphere ESXi hosts which are managed via vCenter Server.

I had configured Always Incremental (single-file) Backup Scheme for the Exchange Server and configured Backup retention to keep 45 backups. So, there is only one Full and the rest are all Incremental backups and all are application aware backups I believe.

I am looking at an option to change the backup scheme. Before I do that, I want to consolidate the current always incremental backups to a single full backup. I tried to achieve this via the Acronis command line tool, but it says that the operation is not supported.

I would appreciate any suggestions to move forward.

Thx

Hi Tom,

If you want to keep only a single recovery point from existing backup chain then you can apply a cleanup task (Plans->Cleanup) to the location and run it separately to remove excessive recovery points from existing archives (I assume there are multiple archives in the location). Note that the space won't be reclaimed automatically after this operation (the physical size of files won't reduce), and in order to shrink it you'll need to perform backups replication (Plans->Backup replication) from the current location to some other place. The backups replication activity will read only real data from the cleaned up archives and will generate full backups in the target location, which can later be used.

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

Thanks for the tip. At this point, I just want to confirm whether the Cleanup plans is available in Acronis Backup 12.5 Standard edition. We are having Acronis Backup 12.5 Standard and I don't have the option to create Cleanup plan.

Hi Tom,

The separate plans management is indeed available with Advanced license only. As an alternative I can suggest to use Export backup functionality which will effectively export a standalone self-sufficient archive (it will generate an archive with single full backup inside) from any recovery point, so you can export the backup using this method:

Thank you.

Hi there,

Thanks for that tip. I think the Export option is also not available for the standard edition. I got to consolidate it using the Acrocmd. Last time, I was trying to convert the last incremental to full, for which it was failing with the error that the operation is not supported for this archive.

The command that worked is as below.

acrocmd consolidate backup --loc="\\bkpstorage\Acronis Backups" --credentials=xxxx,pppppp --arc=ACEX01-654A57EC-AE94-43C8-987D-1A0ECD25813C-5018D0C9-F5E1-A995-57DE-7FEECFEB26EFA
