FAT is corrupted

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am running Acronis Backup 12.5 Build 10330. When running a scheduled incremental back (happens on a manual backup as well) i get the following: Warning
Failed to apply the file exclusions due to file system errors.
FAT is corrupted.
There have been no changes to this machine.

I did some research and was unable to find anything specifically related to this but similar that suggested a chkdsk but that came up clean. This is a Dell Optiplex 3050 and the Dell diagnostics came up clean as well.

This is the log I grabbed for the event:

This did start to happen after a recent power outage but the machine is running without issue other than backups not completing properly and the Windows event logs report nothing related to hard drive issues\failures.

Thanks!

Hi Sam,

The error could be related to "EFI system partition" or "Recovery" partitions, which normally are not checked by chkdsk (since there is no drive letter assigned). First thing to try would be to run chkdsk on them as follows:

1) Issue "mountvol" command to get the list of volumes and their IDs. Example:

Possible values for VolumeName along with current mount points are:

    \\?\Volume{4697ba43-b070-11e1-b000-806e6f6e6963}\
        E:\

    \\?\Volume{fe016cc4-3b55-11e0-a915-806e6f6e6963}\
        *** NO MOUNT POINTS ***

    \\?\Volume{fe016cc5-3b55-11e0-a915-806e6f6e6963}\
        C:\

    \\?\Volume{7b5c2f3c-bc36-11e0-9a95-e069953c6050}\
        D:\

2) Next run chkdsk for volumes without drive letters. Example (note that backslash symbol should not be added after GUID):

chkdsk "\\?\Volume{fe016cc4-3b55-11e0-a915-806e6f6e6963}"

(use /x/f parameters when applicable)

If the above doesn't help then the issue should be investigated with help from our support team. Make sure to collect system report from the problematic machine.

Thank you.
