Full Reinstall of Management Server (Windows) without losing the Backup Plans, Devices, Schedules etc.

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I would like to know if its possible to completely reinstall the management server on a windows host without losing my configuration data as well as my backup plans and attached devices? Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

Nick.

Hello Nick,

If you go through the regular uninstall workflow, you will have a checkbox to remove logs and configuration settings. Keep this unchecked to keep those items. Although in this case it won't be a complete reinstall of the server.

However, this won't save your plans or agents.

You can find information on how to export and re-import plans and agents in this KB: https://kb.acronis.com/content/61354

Thank you!

Hello Igor,
is there a way to do a "clean" reinstall?

Background:
I have a lot of problems with the dashboard (zombie entries of backups and backup plans that were removed months ago).
And as there is no way of cleaning up the database - it seems as if the Acronis database is somewhat "only add, never remove" - I need a cleanup.

So is it possible to do a save and restore of settings?
Or is this another "wish" that is commented with "not possible-maybe in a future version".

Sorry that I´m a bit sarcastic but 12.5 is a big step backwards.
I (and also several others) need this tool to do a professional job and some state-of-the-art features are simply not possible (WOL, cleaning the database, repair a backup file after Acronis damaged it, store and restore settings)....and for that this tool has a large high price.
And no comments on the GUI.....it´s eye-candy but not more.

Regards
S.

Hi Sven,

From my understanding the cleanup_utility is probably what you are looking for: https://kb.acronis.com/abr115cleanuptool

It should do a complete clean of your Acronis install. It has helped me solve one or two issues in the past.

Hi Nick,

the cleanup tool you linked helps me to do a complete uninstall.

But there is no information how to preserve the settings...

Any hint for this ?

Hi Sven,

I'm afraid that is where I am sitting, from my understanding, you can export the backup plans and some report settings but you can't preserve the devices.

This means that if youn reinstall, you will have to make new backups, you can recover from the previous backups, but not append to them if you are using incremental backups

I'll post here again if I find a solution, but like you, I am struggling with a client with a messed up management console but too many machines and backups to start again from scratch.

Hey Nick,
some time ago Acronis was a good product....and then came 12.5.
Sorry for the hard words but an unusable dashboard,  non-repairable backups and other stuff for a fee of several 1000€.....hmmmm

Back to topic:
My backups are not managed by a storage node.
My machine backups are only weekly fulls and the fileserver backups have a GFS-scheme.

Why can´t I simply export and import the plans and then in my naive thinking the filename is the same as before and then it should work or where is my fault in thinking?

So each reinstallation creates a new set of backup files ?

Regards

S.
