Managment Server Switching from Embedded DB to External DB

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I am getting ready to set up my management server and found that in order to manage > 1000 clients I need to use an external SQL database instead of the default embedded DB.  My issue is I have to request that from my DBA team and they have given me a ETA of 2 weeks.

I have other project commitments that put into a bind if I wait for 2 weeks to get this set up.  So I was wondering if I could set up the Managment server using the Internal DB then once the external SQL server is set up, migrate the licenses to that server.  The management console would be the same box.

Is this possible?

Thanks in Advance

Hi Jim,

Currently such migration between AMS databases types is not supported, and we're only planning to add a separate AMS migration tool in a future version (internal feature ID: ABR-121787), however it would likely take a lot of time to get there (there is no definite ETA - likely not sooner than next year).

Not sure if it's allowed in your company, but technically you may use any installation of Microsoft SQL Server as the AMS database backend, e.g. you can install Microsoft SQL Server onto the same machine which will be used as AMS server, instead of requesting external DB setup from your DBA team.

Thank you.

Thanks for your quick reply.  Unfortunately since it is a managed server they will not let me install a DB on it.  I will just wait till they get it built and install then.  I might be able to talk the DBA team into supporting a local SQL DB until the server is built.

Thanks,

Jim
