multiple vmware snapshots creation and deletion at the beginning of the backup

Thread needs solution

Hi, I went my first 12.5 backup yesterday and notice that there were multiple vmware snapshots creation and deletion (one after another, i.e. created a snapshot then delete it, then create again, repeated few times). I would like to understand why and if possible, how can I avoid this? with the old version that I was using (v9), it will always create/delete snapshot once only. Thanks

Hello Aldous,

thank you for your posting! What happens if you create a manual snapshot of the virtual machine in question as follows:

1. Open the vSphere connection to the ESX host
2. Right click on the machine > take snapshot > check the "Quiesce guest file system"
3. Uncheck the "Snapshot the virtual machine's memory" and click OK
4. Run the snapshot

Do you observe the same behavior?

I was able to create quiesce snaphot without issue. Anyway, it seems to be creating single snapshot only after the first backup. During the first backup of a VM, it seems to be creating snapshot several time due to CBT information not there yet (that's what I saw in the log). I think that's OK. Thanks
