New tapes show write-protected
We are new to Acronis and using a trial version of Acronis Backup Advanced Server 12.5 (not release 2). We use an internal tape drive that Acronis does recognize and can inventory tapes from. We purchased new tapes (LTO4) to use with Acronis. So far we have tried 2 of the tapes with same results in a short test backup and they fail stating the media is write-protected. We have an open case with Acronis but no luck yet. We also attached a report from the HCL utility Acronis provides that shows the write-protected error code.
Does anyone know if you have to format a new tape with Acronis before you can use it? We are trying that next but thought we would post should someone have any idea what we can try next.
Thank you!

Thanks for reply..at least we know we do not have to format or erase a new tape first. These tapes are same brand/model (Dell branded 800GB/1600GB) we use in the drive for our current backup software so they are the right tape for the drive and we did check the switch. We bought 10 new tapes to use with Acronis and have tried 2 so far. I have a feeling our current backup software is blocking access to the tapes for Acronis. We have called that software vendor (Barracuda-Yosemite Backup) and they said that Yosemite should not be blocking the tapes. We have disabled the Yosemite service but that did not help. We cannot uninstall Yosemite without fully testing Acronis, plus Yosemite says it is not the issue but not sure how they can really know that. We are going to call Dell and see if they can help--this drive is installed in a Dell PowerEdge server. Just need a another utility to see if it reports tape write protected or if it is just Acronis that thinks they are.
Thanks again for any suggestions.

I know that BackupExec uses their own drivers for tapes and it is not possible to use tape with any other backup software until BackupExec is uninstalled. Not sure but Barracuda might have similar approach. Try to check on another machine if it is possible.
Also, try to install/update tape drivers for drive/changer.
