Newbie Question Regarding Inventory of Drive

Thread needs solution

I am half way through my trial and I have two questions.

* When setting the tape to auto eject after the last of my 4 scheduled jobs, I get an error saying credentials not supplied.  The backup goes fine but the tape does not eject.  I am able to eject the tape via the software when not connected to a job

* When I put the next daily tape in, the backup fails if I don't do an inventory first.  With Backup Exec I would run an automated inventory just before the jobs started.  How do I do this in Acronis 12.5?

Thanks!

Tom

Hello Tom, thank you for interest to our software.

Regarding the tape ejection after backup this is a known issue (relates to tape devices connected to Storage Node). The fix will be available in the nearest update (internal ref. ABR-135596).

Automatic detection of newly inserted tapes is planned in the next product versions (internal ref. ABR-119558). Currently when during backup to standalone tape drive, another media is required, the software stucks with the "Need interaction message" which asks to insert the new media. After inserting the new media and click OK on the "Need interaction message", the software recognizes the media and the backup continues. For tape libraries and autoloaders, backup admin need to perform inventory via the UI before continue backup.

Understood.

These seem like basic needs for someone who simply wants to swap tapes and not have to go into the GUI every day / night.

So even if the eject is fixed, I will still need to intervene to do an inventory prior to backup .. or as you point out, hit OK on pause.

Both of these actions could be scheduled in my previous backup software package.

Inventory by schedule will also appear in the next versions (internal ref. ABR-119005).

Problem is not solved in Update 2!

This is i big bug, we need a fix very fast.

Running a tape inventory (acrocmd on the agent) at start of backup works, but for my costumers it is no workaround. we have to write a lot o TBs to the tape, so when the first tape is full, next tape wont auto invent and the job hangs.

Hi, if the inventory scheduled via acrocmd does not fit to your customer, then scheduled inventory via UI also won't. Unfortunately the UI scheduler for inventory was shifted from the last update 2 and now expected in the next one.

We're also working on automatical inventory that will be perfromed by event - when media changed in the device (expected hopefully in the next update).

Hi Audrey,

Regarding:- "We're also working on automatical inventory that will be perfromed by event - when media changed in the device (expected hopefully in the next update)."

Just checking if this has been implemented yet? Would be very handy...

Thanks,

James

Hi James, automatic inventory has been supported for a standalone drives in the latest update (make sure you're updated). For autoloaders and libraries it will be supported further.
