Restore Backup to new VM harddisk size

Thread needs solution

Hello,

is it possible to reduce the volume/harddisk size of a vhdx created by acronis backup? I created a backup of a desktop pc with a 500gb disk split in to two partitions.

Since our clustervolume has a limited capacity i want to reduce the disk size before or after i create a vm from this backup.

Best regards

Hello Ralf,

welcome to Acronis forums!

Acronis Backup 12.5 by default restores vhdx volumes in thin provisioning mode: it will not occupy more capacity than is allocated inside that disk (500gb disk with 40gb data occupies 40gb, not 500).

You can change a provisioning mode to fixed-sized in settings of Restore: when recovering to a new machine, сlick Disk mapping to select the datastore (storage), interface, and provisioning mode for each virtual disk.
