Restore Exchange mailbox from Virtual Appliance

Thread needs solution

Hi,

we are backing up an Exchange 2013 server virtualized on VMware 5.5 via Acronis 12.5 standard virtual appliance.

We have application backup enabled and in the log we see that the Exchange is bakup properly.

But, when we wants to restore, the Exchange is missing in the devices menu.

Seems that is not possible to restore a Exchange mailbox from Virtual Appliance, is it ?

Josep

Hi Josep,

In order to recover Microsoft application items, the backups need to be opened (browsed) by Agent for VMware (Windows) or Agent for Exchange, so if you browse the backup location via Agent for VMware (Virtual Appliance), there will be no Exchange items recovery option - see description of this specific in this topic.

You need to have either Agent for VMware (Windows) or Agent for Exchange installed somewhere and registered in Acronis Backup management server. After that you will be able to select these agents in Backups tab via "Machine to browse from..." option (see topic).

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

this Agent for VMware (Windows) or Agent for Exchange requires a purchase of additional licenses ?

Thanks

Josep

Josep,

No, there are no additional licenses required - licenses are required only for protecting (backup) resources, but not for recovery scenarios.

Thank you.

to have it clear.

Can I install the agent for Exchange in the same VM Exchange and use it for restore ?

Yes, your assumption is correct. Recovery will be possible, but backup of individual Exchange DBs or mailboxes will require a license.

Thank you.
