Share Storage Node Between different Units

Thread needs solution

We are running a test setup with the latest acronis 12.5 advanced (as msp). We want multiple clients to backup to our datacenter via an acronis management console & storage node installed in our datacenter.
Acronis supports to create different clients (units) in the management console, but it seems not possible to use one storage node for different clients (units). Am I missing something, or is this not possible?

Hi Alain,

Currently it is not possible to share Acronis Storage Node (ASN) between different units, e.g. you can only match 1 ASN <-> 1 unit, so that all locations managed by this ASN are seen only within this unit and it's parent units. The scenario you describe is planned to be suppored in future updates (internal ID: ABR-127927).

Thank you.

Thanks for your answer!

Any idea about release date? Is it planned in future updates of 12.5 , or is it for next new major version?

It should be included within the current 12.5 version, though there is no exact time-frame yet - we're planning it for the next year.

Hi Alain,

The improvements for Acronis Storage Node vaults management are planned for the next year (situation as the same as I described in my previous comment). However in Update 2 we're adding a feature which may fit your scenario: Acronis Backup 12.5 will be capable for backing up directly into Acronis Storage through "Acronis Backup Gateway" configuration. Currently this feature is available only for MSPs selling Acronis Backup Cloud solution, where end-users can save their backup data in the "cloud" and the backing storage for this cloud is Acronis Storage installed in MSP environment.

To address multi-tenant environments it will be possible to register a single Acronis Storage on Acronis Backup local management server and create multiple per-unit vaults on this storage, where these vaults access will be restricted only to particular unit or its parent admins.

Thank you.

Are there any updates on this? We are looking exactly for this feature to be available.
Best regards

Simon

Hi Simon,

If you are acting as MSP for your end-users and need to share the storage from your datacenter among clients and prevent different users from seeing each others backups, then the best solution would be Acronis Backup Cloud platform, where you can use Acronis Storage as expandable storage backend and this storage can be used by the end-users (for them it will look like cloud storage).

With on-premise version of Acronis Backup 12.5 the same approach is possible only when using Acronis Storage (register 1 Acronis Storage => create multiple vaults for different units), but not when using Acronis Storage Node and the feature I mentioned above has low chances to be implemented any time soon. It's more likely that instead in the next version of Acronis Backup (12.7) we will replace Acronis Storage Node component entirely with Acronis Storage, where the functionality you ask for is already implemented.

Thank you.
