Slow network discovering and hard drive information populating from linux usb stick

Thread needs solution

Hello we have a Backup workstation Advanced 12.5 solution with the last version 14330 on Windows OS. The storage space is located on a QNAP nas, the bandwith is 2GB/s and files transfer speed is very good. However when we try to do a restore from the USB stick, the network browser within the tool is really slow (linux kernel), it shows the folder tree after 5min minimum. Then once the backup has been selected, it takes ages for populating local disk information, almost 10min. Is there a solution to improve the overall speed of this process ? Or is it because it's the linux os usb stick ?

Hello Clem,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

Have you already tried the recovery speed? Sometimes browsing takes much time but the recovery goes normally.

If this is not your case and recovery process takes too much time as well, then please open a case with Acronis Support Support since this issue requires investigation.

The recovery process speed is normal, only the network browsing and partition populating are really slow, we always waste at least 15min because of that.

Hello.

This issue could appear if the software tries to browse the location via NFS and then via SMB. This is a known issue (ABR-167448/ ABR-231347).

In order to work around it you can do the following:
- create the bootable media with nfs=off kernel parameter (step 4 during creating the bootable media via Acronis Media Builder: https://www.acronis.com/en-us/support/documentation/AcronisBackup_12.5/…);
- after the media is created, the NFS module should be disabled and the software will not try to browse it.

The second method is to enable NFS on the storage, then the software will access it via NFS and browsing should be OK. Usually, this issue appears when NAS is used and NFS can be enabled there.

The third method is to switch the media to Linux-like Tools -> Change volume representation mode and access the share using Linux-like view: smb://share_address/folder_name . However, you will also see the disks in Linux-like view (sda, sdb and etc).

The fourth method is to create and use WinPE media.

Thanks for this comprehensive answer, it seems nfs=off setting is not taken in account, as I'm still able to browse nfs.

However, I've found that my QNAP NAS has already the NFS service activated, and then I've added a special share access for NFS on our shared folder.

Now I'm able to browse the network shared folder in a really quick manner, using NFS browsing ! :)

So I'm really happy with this workaround.

Many thanks for your help !
