[Solved] ESXi host backup error "The operation is not supported."

Thread needs solution

Hi,

a ESXi host configuration backup plan creates an error "The operation is not supported."

The backup plan was created and started manually without errors, on first planned run it returns that error.

Attached mms and activity log.

Thanks!

Raphael,

We were able to reproduce the issue in our QA lab basing on your description. It looks like it is reproduced only when all 3 factors are in place: the backup type is ESXi configuration + there is backups replication set up in backup plan + archive encryption is turned on. In this case incremental backup (no matter manual or on schedule) will fail. If you disable encryption for this type of backup, then it will succeed. We will address this issue in one of the nearest updates for Acronis Backup 12.

Thank you.

Maybe it succeeds on first (manual) run as the initial backup files do not exist?

Thanks, will mark topic as solved.

Yes, that's right - it can create first full backup and fails on incremental, while trying to access encrypted data (apparently the encryption settings are not properly applied during incremental run). Note that other types of backups are not affected, for example entire VM backup or plain disk/partitions or files/folders backups.
