Some older restore points are not disappearing

Thread solved

Hello,

I have Acronis 12.5 installed on Linux OS with 3 VMware agents for my ESXi hosts.

I have many backup plans for my VMs. On some backups (not all of them), some older recovery points (some months ago) are still appearing despite the fact that the files have been deleted and the disk space is freed. If I try to delete these restore points from the web interface in order to disappear, they are not deleted without any error message at all.

Hello Athanasios!

To understand your situation better I have a few questions:

  • Do these recovery points appear as valid or deleted?
  • By what means have the files been deleted?

-- Peter

Hi Peter,

  • The recovery points appear as valid
  • When I say that the files have been deleted, I mean that in the backup location, I see tibx files with dates that should be normally there. There are no tibx files for the older restore points that are appearing in web interface of acronis.

For example, a backup set with retention period 1 month, has daily restore points from Aug 17 to Sep 17 and some restore points in February. If I check the backup location folder I see tibx files from Aug 16 to Sep 17 but there are no tibx files for February. If I try to delete February's backups from web interface, they are not deleted without error message.

Hmm. I had issues where a wrong clock setting on the backed up machine caused all kinds of chaos among backup management. Like making a backup now, and it still displays that the last backup was a year ago.

Have you tried running a cleanup task for throwing out these old recovery points?

Probably worth a try to contact Technical Support to have it investigated, if neither helps.

Hello Athanasios,

thank you for posting on Acronis forums!

What is the backup location type? Managed ASN vault or unmanaged backup location? Where this backup location is located?

In order to help us to analyze this situation, please share here the screenshots of your backup location in Windows Explorer with the content of the backup location folder and a screenshot of available recovery points in Acronis Management Console.

We also will need Acronis System Report collected from the Agent which from you tried to delete these recovery points. Please upload this system information to the FTP link that I've sent you in a Private Message.

Hello Maria,

My installation of acronis consists of a linux (centos 7) VM where acronis management server is installed and 3 agents for my 3 ESXi hosts. A volume from our storage is locally mounted with iSCSI and the backups are saved here (as local folder in acronis management server). I have the standard version, so  I do not have ASN. And of course, standard version has no cleanup tasks to run as Peter recommended.

I uploaded the screenshots and the log in ftp folder. As you can see, the log writes that the backup is successfuly deleted but it still appears in web interface restore points.

PS1: I know that the easiest way to solve the problem would be the deletion and recreation of the backup plan in order to create a new chain of backup restore points but it's painful for the 14 plans and requires much disk space that I do not have in my backup environment.

PS2: I have another installation of acronis 12.5 advanced version with ASN on another branch of our company without such problems.

Hello Athanasios.

I strongly recommend that you open a case with Acronis Support Team so that support engineers could look at this discrepancy. Please upload Acronis System Information to the same FTP link where the screenshots are already uploaded. Then please share this link with uploaded reports and pics to support engineers.

Hello,

The support team solved my problem.

The solution was to delete the backup location and adding it again. This process does not delete the backups and synchronizes the restore points.
