USB rotating backups failing - retention error

Thread needs solution

Hi guys,

I have acronis backup 12.5.

I have set up backups to USB drive. two backups - one is a full image of local machine and one is file backup from a remote share.

Each one is set to keep 3 copies.

Each one goes to USB drives - I have 3 drives that I am rotating.

I found a guide that suggested I should just set up standard backup, then rotating the drives would be ok and acronis could just write to whatever USB drive was in at the time of the backup. Now I am wondering if I got the wrong idea here because i am getting an error as follows -

Backup failed
An unsupported URI is specified: 'E:/FOLDER/#arl:/4815A918-54EC-468B-BBB8-677DE0ADCF60/C5423060-2F97-4744-B2DA-C0AC10173CCF/E8FC4F5F-8AEC-A35F-3A4B-DABDE896B9B9'.
Error code 0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01490002+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x01350016+0x00A100D9+0x015B0023+0x015B0023

I am getting similar error for both backups and in the email notification there is also some mention that retention policies failed.

So I am wondering if acronis is looking for a backup from another USB drive and trying to delete it, but its not there because we are rotating drives.

I have exported full log file zip as well, but dont know if its ok to upload that?

Can you guys let me know what the issue might be, or advise me what additional info I should provide?

thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

The error appears when retention rules come in play (when backups start to expire) for backups located on external drives. This issue is a known one (internal bug ID: ABR-130967) and it is fixed in the upcoming Update 1 for Acronis Backup 12.5 which we plan to publish during the next week (the final date is not yet confirmed).

Thank you.

Hi Vasily,

Thanks for the quick reply. Thats good to hear, at least I know what the issue is.

I will wait for the update to arrive.

thanks

Dave

Hi Vasily,

Has the update been release yet?

On further inspection I beleive that this issue is stopping the backups form running at all - because the backup runtime is showing as 1 second.

If the update has been released then great, I will apply it straight away, but if not, what is the best course of action for the time being? Should I just back up to one drive, or set up two independant backups perhaps?

Hello David,

The Update 1 is already available! The installation file can be downloaded from Acronis account, where the software is registered. For more information please refer to Downloading an Installation File of Acronis Software.

Just to confirm that I installed latest update and backups are now completing successfully. Thanks everyone.
