Which AGENT -> Application Aware Backup / Exchange & SQL

Thread needs solution

Hello...

We have Acronis Backup 12.5 Advanced installed on Windows Server 2016 Virtual Machine (VMware). We have Windows Servers running as Virtual Machines hosted on ESXi OS (VMware vCenter).

In Acronis, we have installed Agents for our ESXi host in order to do Application Aware Backups for our Windows Servers running Exchange and Apps with SQL.

I have succeed to backup Exchange (Application Aware), but from this backup, I can only restore entire VM or files/folder. We also want to have a possibility to restore Exchange DB or Mailboxes.

Which type of Agent should we use for that kind of backup, and do where do  we have to install this agent (on Windows Server where Exchange is running, or...??!)

Do we need to have Agents on ESXi host also if Agent is installed directly in Windows Server OS?

Hi Marin,

To browse Exchange items in created backups, you need to make sure that browsing is performed either by Agent for Exchange or Agent for VMware (Windows) - from Backups tab select corresponding agent while browsing the location - see below screen shot. The issue in your case might be that you're trying to browse the backups via Agent for VMware (Virtual Appliance) which is Linux-based and therefore cannot browse Exchange items.

Thank you.
