Backup of "execute as MV" change on the backup where is executed

Thread needs solution

Hi, we tried "execute as MV" on hyperv server, I saw that finalize as permanent is possible only in vmware and I not found a way to backup the change done by "execute as MV" on the same backup of source to do a restore on production kvm server as fast as possible after the "execute as MV". I try to explain better: we have kvm servers with vm backupped by acronis cloud, we want to have the smaller downtime possible for the clients in case of kvm server critical issue, we saw the "execute as MV" option for start the vm from backup in short time instead wait the full restore on new server and do the full restore only after (for example night) INCLUDING "execute as MV" changes, what is the faster way? Is there at least the possiblity to do a fast diff backup to tibx of source?

I already open a ticket about it but replied only about future support of hyperv finalize and actual workaround (that we not need), so I try to ask also here.

Can someone tell me if there is at least a way to do a fast backup of "execute as VM" diff to tibx of source please?

For example on vmprotect manual I found that "umount and save" of "run vm from backup" seems what I need but I not found a way to do the same on acronis cloud.

EDIT: I tried to do backup of device running from backup but acronis mms service is always not running and trying to manually start it gave always error 1053 related to timeout (even if gave it after 2-3 sec max instead of 30 of the default service timeout, so I suppose is a crash instead), is impossibile running acronis backup inside of "execute as MV" or is a bug/unexpected case and I must try to take a backtrace and/or other useful informations and send them to ticket?

EDIT2: I tried to update agent to latest version and redone the backup in different way to improve "execute as MV" performance. mms service still not start on "execute as MV". About performance I saw important difference removing cryptography, not significative change removing also compression (I suppose for network usage increased) and now I'll try also single file backup type. Can someone give me some advice about performance increase please? Backup are stored on smb share in nas with 1gpbs ethernet (not fiber), for example can give performance increase use large mtu, what is the best backup type and options ecc...?

Thanks for any reply and sorry for my bad english.

Hello Emilio,

Thank you for your posting!

Yes, the finalization of Hyper-V VMs is not implemented yet. To save the changes in a VM deployed via Execute as VM you can either finalize it manually as described in https://forum.acronis.com/forum/acronis-backup-125/instant-restore or install an Agent for Windows (or Linux) into the guest OD of the VM and create a backup of it.

Thanks for reply, as I wrote "execute as MV" is only for have critical vm working before full restore but after we need restore them on new kvm production server so the hyperv finalize not solve our problem.

About the backup from guest's agent we have already tried in all tests as wrote without success...

Emilio, I'd suggest raising a support ticket to get the issue with mms.exe resolved, after resolving it you'll be able to back up the VMs and restore the backups to KVM.
