0x0000007B Error restoring server using UR

Thread needs solution

Hi

I am trying to restore a Windows Server 2003 server to dis-similar hardware using Acronis 10 Build 10.0.12708
I have created a bootable image, added the Chipset and Raid driver to the ISO before burning to CD. I boot the CD, i can see the hardware Raid logical drive, i restore the server (no errors reported)

When I then boot the server I get the Windows Server 2003 splash screen then I get the BSOD error 0x0000007B.

I have taken the same image restored to VMWare and the server boots fine so I think the image is ok.

Any suggestions why this is not working, I have read some posts stating this is due to invalid raid driver, but I would have thought if the raid driver was wrong I wouldn't be able to restore to the logical drive.

thanks.

Hello Mandeep,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

BSOD 7B means that the OS cannot start due to the lack of drivers. Unfortunately without the diagnostic information it's hard to say for sure what went wrong, so the situation requires investigation. In order to localize the issue, please do the following:

  1. Gather the drivers for the dissimilar hardware from the vendors support and place them to any folder you can access from the bootable media. It can be a folder on the flash drive or network shared folder
  2. Restore the image according to these instructions

Should the issue remain, please gather the following diagnostic information:

  1. Get Acronis Universal Restore Log (aurlog.txt)

    • After the restore process is done, go to View Log -> Save all to file and save logs to an external/flash drive or to a network share.
    • Send us the saved XML file.
  2. System Report from target system:  Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: Generating System Report.

(!) If the system keeps rebooting instead of getting to BSOD, tell the Customer to hit F8 and select the option Disable automatic restart on system failure.

  3. Windows registry
It has to be captured both from source and from target systems.
Please do the following to take Windows registry from the target system (that is, the system to which the image was restored):
Create an Acronis True Image Bootable CD. The CD is used because in most cases the problem systems cannot boot into Windows.
Boot the computer under consideration from the created Acronis True Image Bootable CD
Create files/folders backup of \Windows\System32\Config\SYSTEM file
Send us the created *.tib file
Please do the following to take Windows registry from the source system (there are two ways to do this):
You can perform the same exact steps described above for capturing registry from target system and send us the *.tib file
Or since the source system registry is already backed up as a part of a full hard disk drive or partition backup, you can simply restore \Windows\System32\Config\SYSTEM file from the image and send us the restored files/folders.
So, we need two Windows registry exports: from source system and from target system.
  4. Mass Storage Device driver specified for the restore operation. (INF/SYS/ZIP/EXE files)
  5. Get Acronis System Report from the restored system to get information on disk and partition structure:

Since the target system cannot boot in Windows normally, you should request Acronis Report created from CD or flash drive. See Acronis Report

After that please open a support request with the information attached, and let us know its number.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please, let us know, we will be glad to help you.

Thank you!

So even though I have added the drivers to the ISO, I need to specify them in the UR, just trying this now. I will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for your help

Dear John,

Thank you for your comment and pointing this out. We have updated the KB, but haven't added the post.

I have corrected the instructions in the comment, thank you for being attentive!
