ABR 11 Adv Wkstn & ABR 11 Srv Standalone on same machine

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could assist with the following issue that i have to see if what i'm trying to achieve is possible or if i have to live with my workaround.

Scenario:
I have multiple ABR V11 Adv Wkstn licenses and have installed a license server / management server and management console on a physical server to allow me to deploy the agents and manage them from a central location.
The above works fine and lets me created plans etc to manage my workstation estate.

Problem:
The problem arises when i then install ABR 11 Srv standalone version onto this server as i want to be able to image this server also.

Once the Standalone version has been installed there is no longer a management console available to control the workstations, the management server that gets installed as part of the server software seems to overwrite / override the workstation management console.
However during this above, the images that are being taken of the workstations are still working, its just i cant see the progress of them from a management console view.

To get round this issue, i have had to install another instance of the management console of a workstation to enable me to manage the workstations etc.

Is this the expected behaviour for me to carry out, in that i need to install another instance of the management server for the workstation software to manage the machines or should i also be able to still run the management console on its original server?

Thanks

Duncan

Hi Duncan

The Advanced Management console has network/remote access features were as the standard (non advanced) product does not allow for remove/network access so unfortunately you will not beable to use the Management consoles between the two products.

Having said that the management console is a free component so you can install it as many times as you like on any computer so with your Advanced workstation install you can install the advanced management console on any server/workstation and access your ABR11 clients.

The best solution for you would be to use the Advanced Server edition as well as then you can tie up all your ABR11 installs and connect using the same console and if it’s ever required to bring more servers online you can start using the management server (centralised management)..etc

You can use advanced console to locally manage standalone agent. It should be possible to extract "agent coreЭ and "agent for windows" msi from standalone installer and install only them on the server.
