I have an intermittent problem backing up a Windows 2K3 SBS with MS Exchange and SQL Server 2005 installed.

The errors are;

Hello Martin,
Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.
1) First of all, please install the latest build of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 #11345. You can learn more on how to download the latest build in this article
2) Download, unpack and install SnapAPI Build 512.
After the installation of SnapAPI Build 512 you will be asked to reboot the machine. You can either reboot the machine, or ignore the message and restart the Acronis Managed Machine Service by doing the following:
-
Hit Start-Run and type in services.msc;
- Right-click on the Acronis Managed Machine Service and select Restart.

See if the issue persists.
If the issue still remains, please download Acronis Report utility available here and run it, create a report and attach the file to your next post. Please compress the Acronis Report output file into an archive (e.g. with WinZip) and attach to your message by browsing for the archive.
This would provide us with detailed information on the hard disk partition structure.

Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Hello Emanuele,

Thank you for the provided information.

To resolve the issue please enable Microsoft VSS instead of Acronis VSS. You can learn more on how to do it in this article.

If the issue remains, please disable multi-volume snapshot and disable VSS in the default backup option. Perform a backup and see if the issue remains. This will help to localize the issue.

Could you also please clarify the exact moment when the error message appears? Does it appear at the very beginning of the backup or in the middle of the entire process?

Also please provide us with the sysinfo file:

- Open Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information;
- Choose the "Save" option in the "File" menu (or "Action" menu under Windows 2000), enter the "File name" and set the field "Save as type" to "System Information File (*.NFO)";
- Send us the saved file.

We are looking forward to hearing back from you at your earliest convenience. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.

I used the Acronis Cleanup Utility and reinstalled the product from the ground, it now works fine.

I am using 11345 and I get this problem intermittently on Windows 7 64 bit workstations. Considering I am running incrementals very often, the failure rate is pretty low, but it still happens. Maybe once a week so far.

I tried using the new Snap API 512, and it did not resolve the issue. I believe I am using whatever default VSS settings are in place.

Hello Carrol,

Thank you for contacting us.

There are two reasons of the encountered issue:

1) The system doesn't have enough memory to execute the backup. All above actions should reduce the system requirements and can allow to get rid of the error.

2) There is no enough free space on the source partition to place the backup temp files. You can resize the system partition to enlarge the free space available, or reallocate the temp folder specifying the partition that has a plenty size of free space.

Since the error message appears sporadically, I would recommend you to enable Microsoft VSS instead of Acronis VSS, this can solve the issue.

Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.

Thank you.
