ABR10 Management Console hangs during installation

Thread needs solution

Hello,

I cannot for the life of me get ABR10 management console to install. I've tried using the install menu from Acronis and also by extracting the file and running it from a command line. I did also try the kb article with Microsoft advertise, but I don't beleive I have this installed. The installation hangs at the end of the bar graph and cannot be canceled, except by ending the process. This symptom is produced on more than one corporate computer for our company. I'm using ABR10AW build 11639. Attached is the MSI log and System information. Please help!

I too am experiencing the same problem. I am attempting to install on a totally 'clean' XP system with no previous Acronis components installed. There seems to be an issue with this build. Can anyone from Acronis respond?

Hi Steve,

I had Acronis call me today about the issue after I had a case number created. I didn't expect the call, but I'm glad it happened. We had to enable service "distributed transaction coordinator" to get the management console to install completely. I do have a second computer with the same issue, but it was not available at the time, so I will try this fix next week and see if we are 2 for 2. The funny thing is I could actually run the management console prior with an incomplete installation, but it was not shown in the control panel installed programs. From the start-run command line, enter "services.msc" and manually start the service mentioned if it is not running. Hope this resolves your issue.

Hi JB

Thanks so much for you comment, it is very much appreciated.

I tried starting the service 'distributed transaction coordinator' but unfortunatley it did not allow the install to complete.

To cut a very long story short I opened a case with Acronis and the engineer managed to install the console after extracting the individual install files, he also advised that the following services should be running prior to installation (these are the ones he started during the remote help session).

Distributed transaction coordinator
Com+ System Application
Windows Installer (although he did not seem certain about this one)

The manual install process then completed. I have not done any further testing to ascertain which of the three services are critical to the install process. It may be that all or none of these services are required for a manual install to succeed but I did investigate any further.

What I can say is that even after enabling all of the three services above, the Acronis install package would hang whenever Management Console was installing, so the advice appears to be to extract and then install the package individually.

Hope this may help some one else.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts. I would like to assist you with this issue.

We have a known problem with our software, when the Acronis Management Console hangs during installation. It can be caused by other products installed with the "Advertise" option. We have a detailed description of this in our Knowledge Base article available here. As a workaround, you can install our program from Windows command-line.

It appears that JBswift's issue was caused by the stopped services, I cannot provide any information regarding Steve's problem because of lack of information.

The same article that I mentioned above has instructions for the required troubleshooting information that will help us resolve such issues.

If you need additional assistance or have any other questions, please let me know.

Thank you.
