ABR11 Not enough memory to complete the operation

Thread needs solution

Hello!

We are getting a "Not enough memory to complete the operation." error when trying to create our first full backup with Acronis Backup and Recovery for Windows Server. The backup tasks hangs and will not stop when being told to cancel. The whole server has to be rebooted for the backup task to respond and be marked as failed. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Which version of ABR11 are you using - Workstation, Server, Advanced Server?

Which version of Windows Server are you using?

What type of disk setup do you have?

Where are you imaging to?

How much RAM does the server have? All Acronis imaging products use RAM extensively, to my knowledge they do not use the pagefile.

Hello Eric!

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I will be glad to assist you.

There can be several reasons for the problem, and in order to localize the exact cause, we will need additional diagnostic information. But before we proceed with the investigation, I would like to suggest you couple of things:

  1. This issue could be related to the VSS snapshot reading process. If you see this error message when trying to back up with VSS enabled, please try to disable the VSS option and see if it works.
If the backup succeeds with VSS disabled, then the solution is to update to the latest build of the product which has the issue fixed. See Installation of the Latest Update of an Acronis Product. Alternatively, you can also download and install SnapAPI586 - a driver update that should fix the issue.

  2. During the backup the product creates a snapshot - temporary file, required for the successful backup creation. It may take up to 50% of the free space, so I would advise you to move specify another location for the snapshot or decrease its size. You can find the instructions for both actions in this KB article.

If the issue remains even after these steps, please gather Acronis Info from the problem machine and send it to us. This data will help us to localize the issue and find an appropriate solution for it.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, we will be glad to help.

Thank you!

ABR11 Server Edition
Windows Server 2003 Standard
Backing up a disk connected via iSCSI
Backing up to a disk connected via Fiber Channel
4GB of RAM

I will try the suggestions made by Yana and report back. Thank you both!

Were you ever able to resolve this problem? I've been having the same issue with multiple machines running ABR 11 online backup. It seems to be I have issues when the backup set contains large files. The incremental backup not having enough memory to make a file comparison on large files makes sense to me, however, online backup only allows you to backup incrementally beyond the first backup. I'm not expecting there to be an easy fix to this problem, but would be happy if there were.

Hi, I do also encounter this error when performing backups.

I am running Acronis 11.5 B&R on a Win7 64bit Enterprise with 16GB RAM, 3 HDD (c: 20GB, D: 3TB, E: 3TB).

Kindly advise if there is a solution yet....
