ABR11 Virtual Edition and Dell PowerVault MD3200 VSS

Thread needs solution

While researching the very slow performance of our backups I ran into some article that was talking about the VSS provider used by ABR11. I had it set to system default which I'm guessing contributed to the slowness. I also noticed that when backups were running the Hyper-V CSV began to shrink at a constant rate in a 1:1 ratio with the backup that was being created.

Over the weekend I updated the firmware of MD3200 controllers and NVRAM and had set the cache size to 16KB. I think it helped a bit, but I can't be 100% sure. As part of the firmware upgrades I had to upgrade the management software too which installed and updated version of the VSS provider.

Now, I've set the VSS provider inside of Acronis to Hardware/Software Automatic and I'm making the assumption that once the backup process starts it will use the MD3200 VSS provider. Is that true? If so, can I expect to see a performance improvement?

Thanks,
Alex

Hello Alexandar Velkov,

Thank you for posting this question in our forum. I am happy to assist you.

When using Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 you should use the Software System provider setting as default. See this article in our knowledge base that describes how to set this default.

The Microsoft VSS will trigger all other VSS Providers that are on this system.

Let me know if you need additional help please.

Thank you.
