Acronis 10 ASVE and VMWare VI3 HA and DRS
Hello,
We plan to use ACRONIS ASVE with :
a physical management server with ACRONIS Console and Server
a VMWare VI3.5 Infrastructure (2 ESX servers, VMotion, HA and DRS).
2 ACRONIS virtual appliance (one by ESX Server).
The goal is to backup all VMs present in VI3.5 but we want to use Vmotion, HA, DRS in case of failure or high cpu consumption.
After some tests, we have this problem :
When we create a backup plan on a HOST/VA or when we create a backup policy applied on a VM, everything is ok and backup succeded. But when we move a VM on the second server, backup for this VM failed. In the group "All virtual Machines" we can see this VM two times (on by HOST/VA).
We try to
create a dynamic group : not OK
We look at the documentation and ACRONIS seem to support ESX3.5. But VMWare DRS and HA are they supported ?
Wich settings should we use ?
thanks in advance
Stephane

Hi Stephane,
Did you resolve this query? I am trying to do the same thing, just in the implementation stage, however we have 5 ESX hosts and with HA and VMotion we have guests floating all over the place.
Thanks,
Junior

I tried this with build 11345 and it did not work.
I created a policy to backup a single VM on an ESX host. That VM was on ESX host A. I then vmotioned the VM to ESX host B. The next time the back up task ran it failed with an eror that it is not licensed.
I have two ESX hosts and two virtual edition licenses for the hosts.
Anybody have a resolution for this?

Yana,
I guess I need to appologize. Earlier this week I was working on replying to your request and documenting what I have and what I was doing and the results.
To my surprise I was able to move a VM from one host to another and the backup worked!
The only thing I can think of is Anton from Acronis Support remoted into our system and reinstalled the VM Appliances about a month ago. My initial test of moving a VM and see backup fail was before Anton reinstalled the appliances.
So maybe Anton fixed whatever was wrong, but it is working now.
Again I appologize for this.
Larry
