Hi I searched but couldn't find an answer to my questions and I am hoping I will get help here.

- We are running a Windows SBS 2003 and we recently purchased Acronis SBS with Universal Recovery we just want to have full and incremented backups for the server itself.

First question how do I enable universal recovery after the installation, Do I just need to create a media disc with Universal Recovery?

Second question is we want to use Acronis just to back up the server no other machine and in case of emergency or hardware failure we want to be able to use that image on a different computer with a different hardware, how does this process work are there step by step guides out there. I want to be able to practice and see if it really works before we get in to a disaster situation.

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here! I understand your concern and will gladly shed the light to the situation.

Bother of your questions can be answered by Acronis Universal Restore Guide. We do have it - with step-by-step screenshots - and you will find the link to it below in the thread.

Acronis Universal Restore is a special add-on that allows you to restore your images to dissimilar hardware. it's available from the bootable media only, so in order to have it, you need to: 

  1. Install the License Server from the ABR SBS installation package
  2. Add there ABR SBS and Acronis Universal Restore licenses
  3. Run the installation file and check Acronis Universal Restore to get installed.

After that please create a bootable media with the help of the product (Tools -> Create Bootable Rescue Media ).

In case you need to restore the image onto the another hardware, you need to add the drivers for that dissimilar hardware, otherwise your system may not boot. You can find the detailed instructions and the information regarding what drivers are requires in this Guide.
