Acronis Backup Files Not Recognized

Thread needs solution

I just lost my hard drive and when I started the Acronis
emergency start-up disk and set it to examine the backup files, it found them fine on the external disk but a message came up that said these files were not Acronis backup files although they all were correctly marked as .tib files. I had two full backups followed by several incremental backups all of which were labeled correctly as .tib files. Why would the Acronis backup files not be recognized as valid when all of them are named properly?

Could it because I'm using the latest build of Acronis and the backup files were produced by an earlier build? I really need to recover these files and need help ASAP. I'm using a temporary laptop for this message. To further complicate matters, I just had hip replacement surgery so I'm partially disabled. Any assistance you can give me with regard to the backup file non-recognition problem so I can replace the bad HD and recover the files.

Sincerely,
Robert Engelbardt

Hello Robert,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help.

There can be several reasons of the encountered issue.

1) The issue can be related to the improper mounting of the USB hard drive. If you use an USB hub, try to connect the hard drive directly. Try another USB port, try the USB port in front of the computer. Copy the archives to internal hard drive and see if the issue remains. Try to get the access to the archive under Acronis Bootable Rescue Media. Acronis Bootable Rescue Media is a standalone version of Acronis True Image Home, burned onto a CD and based on a Linux operating system.

You can find out on how to create Acronis Rescue Media in User guide for Acronis True Image Home 2010  (chapter 15)

2) The issue can be related to the archive corruption. In this case I would recommend you to copy the archives to internal hard drive and to validate the archive files. If the program detects the corruption, the only way out is to mount the archives or to explore them, this will help to retrieve the necessary data files (you can learn more on how to do it in the respective user guide in chapter 17).

3) The chain of the archives is corrupted. If you deleted one of the volumes or moved it to another location, the archives' integrity was broken.

If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.

Thank you.
