Acronis Backup & Recovery 10: Failed to connect to the mail server

Thread needs solution

I have been using Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 for quite a long time and it worked perfectly fine. Last week, it stopped sending email notification. I re-created all the backup plans and send a test email but I got the following error.

Details
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Code: 21,954,574(0x14F000E)
LineInfo: 0xDA7E497CF4160DF4;
Module: C:\Program Files\Acronis\AMS\ManagementServer.exe
Message: Failed to connect to the mail server.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know that this is a known bug and there are many threats on Acronis Forums. I have googled and searched for several days for the solution to my problem. I have tried every solution possible.

I ensured that
-Firewall, Internet Security Software or Provider does not block the outgoing network connections.
-All email settings are correct.
-Network cable is connected to the machine. (Good connection)

Any help will be very much appreciated!

Hi,

Is the email address you use a business one or a private one? If a private one, is it one provided by your ISP or a free one such as Hotmail, Yahoo etc?

If you have a different email address you can try that would help to noarrow down if it is an ABR problem itself or if your ISP has changed something that stops ABR connecting properly.

You could also try making a repair install of the Management Server if you have the extracted MSI file for it. If you haven't I would suggest extracting the file as it is easier just to use that rather than trying to repair the complete install.

Yesterday, I completely uninstalled Acronis and it's components including Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and re-installed it from scratch. But the problem still exists . I am using G-Mail as my business email. Here is the email settings I use to send a test message:

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): smtp.gmail.com
Port: 465
Username: username@mybusinessname.com.sg
Password: mypassword

Under Additional Parameters
------------------------------------
From: username@mybusinessname.com.sg
Encryption: SSL

I tried sending with my Hotmail and Yahoo Mail instead because I doubt that G-Mail might have changed some settings on their side. It doesn't work either. I noticed something that when I use "TLS" encryption type and port no 587 for G-Mail, a test message is sent but I don't receive any email notifications in my inbox.

I am sure that ISP didn't change any settings because ABR 11.5 on the other server is working fine.

Is there anything else I could try to solve this problem?

Thank you so much for your time and attention to this matter.

AKH.

OK,

Check that your firewall hasn't suddenly blocked port 465. IF you are able to, try an email address that uses the standard port 25. Are you sure you need SSL ? I know that ABR can be picky with non standard ports and accessing web based mail providers.

Did this occur after a Windows or other software update?

Are you using the last build of ABR10?

Does ABR11.5 work OK if you install it on this machine?

Hopefully someone else may know of the answer.

Did you manage to solve this as I have exactly the same problem and it occured around the same time as yours. I have disabled all firewalls and antivirus, double checked the smtp details for my gmail account and they are correct. I also tried the TLS option with port 587 and again I have exactly the same result as you, the email reports as being sent but never arrives.

Thanks

Craig

Craig,

Have you checked to see if they are regarded as spam by your ISP and getting diverted?

I have this problem too. Updating to latest build doesn't fix this and the mail is not getting marked as spam.
