Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console for remote Linux Agent

Thread needs solution

I'm evaluating Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux for a number of linux servers.

The Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Linux guide suggests using the Windows Management Console to manage the linux agent.

1.1.2. Management Console
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console is an administrative tool for remote or local
access to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 agents, and in the product editions that include the
centralized management capability, to the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Server.
The console has two distributions for installation on Windows and installation on Linux. While both
distributions enable connection to any Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 agent and Acronis Backup &
Recovery 10 Management Server, we recommend that you use the console for Windows if you have a choice between the two. The console that installs on Linux has limited functionality:
• remote installation of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 components is not available
• the Active Directory-related features, such as browsing the AD, are not available.

Since most of the linux servers have no X installed, this is the only option to configure them.

There is no Windows Console included, so I tried the console from Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Server for Windows, but doesn't have a remote management option.

Which Management Console is needed ?

You need console from "Advanced Server for Windows"
If console has no remote management option, it's from the "Server for Windows" without the 'Advanced' part.

However installation guide also contains the string "Remote connection to the agent is not possible". I have no idea how it correlates with the recommendation to use Windows console.

You need 'Advanced server' to manage it remotely. Or use truimagecmd.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for using [[http://www.acronis.com/enterprise/ | Acronis Corporate Products]]
I understand the question and I can assist you with it. The Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console description contains all features that can be applied by this tool in general. The note concerning Windows distribution and remote management is related to the advanced versions of the program. Imagine that you have a network that contains Windows-based and Linux- based servers. In this case using the Windows distribution of  Management Console is preferable.
we recommend that you use the console for Windows if you have a choice between the two.
If you use a standalone version of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 (for example, Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Server for Linux or Acronis Backup & Recovery 10.0 Server for Windows that are considered to be the local versions Acronis Backup & Recovery), you don't have this choice.
That's why you should use Linux distribution of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console that is included into the installation package of your program.
To install the Linux distribution of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console please do the following:
- Run the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 setup file;
- Extract the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console for Linux component;
- Put the extracted file to a Linux machine;
- On the Linux machine issue the following commands:
chmod 777 AcronisManagementConsoleLinux.i686
./AcronisManagementConsoleLinux.i686
Please let us know if the provided information is not clear or you need a further assistance.
Thank you.
