Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition + Deduplication Licensing

Thread needs solution

I would like an expert in the ABR11 licensing field, to provide accurate information on the licensing structure for the following setup:

1 vmware vCenter Server, comprising of 3 vmware ESXi vSphere Essentials Hosts and several VM’s in a SAN environment.
The ABR11 installation, including the Management console was installed on a Physical Environment, as the Tape Backup Storage are connected to the Physical Host.

I have deployed 3 Agents for my 3 ESXi Hosts (Virtual Machines --- Host and Clusters) as I only had a NFR key (1 device only) and 1 Trial key.
I used the ABR11 Virtual Edition through my Acronis Appliance Agent for the Acronis Appliance Agent and the Trial key for the 1 ESXi Host.

1) How many of what LIC’s should a purchase to manage all VM’s residing on 3 ESXi Hosts?

2) Can I manage licensing through the vmware vCentre or do I have to physically apply lic’s to all ESX Hosts and Acronis Appliances?

3) I do not require Universal Restore as I will only be restoring VM's to their original hosted ESXi Host. Can I purchase a Acronis Backup & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition + Deduplication license without Universal restore? Would there be any price difference?

Thanks.

Without clarity on what and how many licenses should be purchased to accommodate my clients needs, we are loosing valuable business.

Kindly provide a response to the below requirement.

Thanks.

0) - Disclaimer - I'm not an expert in the ABR11 licensing field;

3) There is no VE without universal restore, it's always bundled with it.
2) Applicances are supposed to take licenses from the License Server which name or IP you specify.
1) From the Virtual Edition 'backing up virtual machines' erm... whitepaper? userguide? - 6.1.1 Each ESX(i) host whose virtual machines you want to back up requires a separate license. - So after the trial key expires, you need two more.

Hello Chris,

Here are some details on licensing:
Each of the protected ESXi hosts requires a separate Virtual Edition license.
ESXi cluster is considered as a single entity that requires a number of licenses equal to number of ESXi hosts.
System checks and takes all necessary licenses when it starts any licensed operation (for example, backup of any machine from an ESXi host).

>> 1) How many of what LIC’s should a purchase to manage all VM’s residing on 3 ESXi Hosts?
If you are going to backup machines on all hosts, 3 Hosts require 3 licenses.

>> 2) Can I manage licensing through the vmware vCentre or do I have to physically apply lic’s to all ESX Hosts and Acronis Appliances?
No, you cannot. It is not necessary to assign licenses to ESXi host manually. System assign a necessary license to a ESXi host automatically when it does first backup of any virtual machine from the host.

>> 3) I do not require Universal Restore as I will only be restoring VM's to their original hosted ESXi Host. Can I purchase a Acronis Backup >> & Recovery 11 Virtual Edition + Deduplication license without Universal restore? Would there be any price difference?
All Virtual Edition licenses include Universal Restore.

Would be nice thought that as a feature, we could deploy licenses using vCentre. That will help a lot if you have more than 20 hosts.
